Helping government maximize the Cloud.

Like many institutions in the private sector, federal agencies are leveraging the Cloud to achieve cost savings and improve operations. Cloud computing also empowers government to be more innovative, making it easier to try out new ideas. However, it can be a challenging technology to understand and different Cloud models work best for different agencies.

At Aquilent, we provide the guidance and support to help our customers choose and procure the right Cloud model for them. Below are definitions of the deployment and service models we offer.

Deployment Models

At Aquilent, we provide the guidance and support to help our customers choose and procure the right Cloud model for them. Below are definitions of the deployment and service models we offer.

Public Cloud

This Cloud model is open to the general public and owned by the organization providing the Cloud services (for example, Amazon Web Services).

Private Cloud

Private Clouds—as the name implies—are used exclusively by a single organization. They can exist either on-premise or off-premise, operate internally or externally, as well as be owned and managed by a government agency, a private company, or a combination of the two.

Hybrid Cloud

This model combines two or more Cloud infrastructures (public, private, or community), bringing together and leveraging the best software or technologies from each, and allowing workloads to be moved back and forth between each type of Cloud according to needs.

Service Models

Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)

IaaS is essentially a virtual version of the traditional IT infrastructure, where all computing and storage capabilities are in the Cloud. While users are still required to manage the infrastructure—including the operating system, application, and any virtual appliances—the benefits include increased agility, flexibility, and on-demand access.

Software as a Service (SaaS)

SaaS lets users access and utilize third-party applications, such as email and collaboration tools, that run on a provider-managed Cloud infrastructure. In this model, the service provider is responsible for managing applications, operating systems, and hardware components.

Platform as a Service (PaaS)

PaaS makes it easy to deploy applications without the cost and complexity of buying or managing hardware and software. The applications are set up on a provider-managed and maintained Cloud infrastructure. The benefits of this model include increased productivity, faster time-to-deployment, no upfront capital expenditures, plus increased flexibility and agility.
