Toolset (AFIFHCT) Technology Strategy_
Aquilent provided the Air Force Medical Service (AFMS) with a roadmap to convert their stovepiped systems into a centralized applications framework, resulting in increased reuse and significant cost savings.
- our approach_
-
Air Force Medical Service (AFMS) realized the need to move away from a “stovepipe” development and hosting methodology and move toward a centralized framework to develop, maintain and host multiple applications.
- the solution_
-
Aquilent began this undertaking by assessing 16 of AFMS’s legacy applications for usage, functionality overlap and maintenance pricing. The target architecture and gateway, known as the AFMS Health Care Toolset, is currently under development.
After assessing these systems, the team provided a Transition, Migration and Sequencing Plan. An architecture implementation plan was provided that supported centralized development, maintenance and hosting for these and any additional AFMS applications. Additionally, the team is developing a gateway that allows users access to all requisite applications through Single Sign On (SSO). The target architecture and gateway, known as the AFMS Health Care Toolset, is currently under development; the first release is expected in early 2010.
- the payoff_
-
Through the development of the AFMS Health Care Toolset, the AFMS will better realize and benefit from economies of scale. All applications that reside on this toolset will leverage each other’s resources and products (e.g., MS Performance Point, Online Survey Tools, etc.). Additionally, AFMS users can access all required applications from one centralized location.
