Air Force CarePoint
Share

On behalf of the Air Force Medical Service (AFMS), Aquilent is implementing a centralized web-based applications framework called CarePoint, which is being deployed to standardize development of AFMS software applications, provide tools to accelerate that development, and yield significant cost savings in development, maintenance, and hosting.

  • our approach_
  • Based on the results of a systematic review of AFMS Tier 4 software applications under the Air Force Integrated Framework Healthcare Toolset (AFIFHCT) project, Aquilent defined a technology modernization strategy for long-term integration or replacement of AFMS applications. This approach transitions AFMS away from a “stovepipe” development and hosting methodology toward a centralized, web portal framework for development, maintenance, and hosting of multiple applications.

  • the solution_
  • Aquilent worked closely with AFMS staff to define a new, centralized technology platform and hosting environment for AFMS software applications, called CarePoint. CarePoint is a multi-service tool to consolidate Tier 4 AFMS applications into a single point of service for healthcare providers. CarePoint is based upon Microsoft Offi ce SharePoint Services (MOSS) technology platform, with a single sign-on (SSO) capability for integrated access to software applications. It implements a portal concept to modernize and consolidate applications in conjunction with AFMS data consolidation and a planned enterprise data warehouse.

  • the payoff_
  • CarePoint provides a modern technology platform for the development of new AFMS system applications, as well as, the migration of existing applications into a centralized, standardized, and less costly hosting and services environment. CarePoint defi nes a standard framework, technology set, and tools for the development of AFMS software applications. And, because the solution is fully web based, it provides a solution that can be centrally managed. Applications that are hosted on this toolset can leverage shared services and resources, and operate within a standard user interface framework. Additionally, through system integration and single sign-on, AFMS users can access all required applications from one centralized location.
