  • "...we must use all available technologies and methods to open up the federal government, creating a new level of transparency to change the way business is conducted in Washington..."
    —from President Obama’s Technology Strategy

In early 2009, President Obama introduced his technology agenda for modernizing the federal government. It’s clear his administration sees the transformative power of technology and innovation. Our proactive business practices and innovative solutions are already helping government agencies align with his vision.

For the past 30 years, we’ve been on the leading edge of government technology—from streamlining the government procurement processes to facilitating citizen access to information from hundreds of agencies and programs. And with President Obama’s renewed emphasis on modernizing the way our government operates—inside and out—we’re well positioned to continue to assist federal agencies and programs by creating a road map for their technological future and making it easier for them to reach their goals.

Aquilent has an important role to play in supporting our government to achieve these goals. By partnering on such groundbreaking web-based projects as USA.gov, MyHealtheVet.gov, USPS.gov, and the original FirstGov.gov, we’ve been at the forefront of creating a new, more Internet-ready federal government. Whether we’re helping agencies look ahead to prepare for new technologies on the horizon, or creating web applications that encourage an open, safe, and democratic Internet, Aquilent is a trusted advisor and thought leader when it comes to defining the government’s role on the web—and vice versa.

  • transparency, collaboration, and participation_
  • "My Administration is committed to creating an unprecedented level of openness in Government. We will work together to ensure the public trust and establish a system of transparency, public participation, and collaboration. Openness will strengthen our democracy and promote efficiency and effectiveness in Government."
—from President Obama’s Memo on Transparency and Open Government for the Heads of Executive Departments and Agencies

President Obama wants to open up government to its citizens by using cutting-edge technologies to create a government that is transparent, participatory, and collaborative. In many ways, these three things go hand in hand. A government that is participatory and collaborative is, by nature, more transparent, leading to greater accountability. And a more transparent government—one that does its business out in the open—is one that promotes and encourages collaboration and participation. From creating user-friendly web applications to developing content management systems that ensure open collaboration across agencies, departments, and regions, we’ve been on the leading edge of creating a government—inside and out—that is in line with President Obama’s vision.

  • government 2.0_
  • Web 2.0 is changing the way companies all over the world interact with their customers. Some of the best innovations in the private sector have come from public participation—from creating new products and services based on customer feedback to developing more user-friendly and cost-effective processes. At Aquilent, we believe in Web 2.0, and more specifically Government 2.0, and the power of the collective citizenry to help address and solve the nation’s problems and challenges.

Often, federal government agencies and their technology infrastructure are not fully equipped to handle this two-way form of communication. And technology is only half of the equation; agencies must ask themselves how they will use this new input from citizens to their benefit. From strategy to implementation, we’re helping agencies plan for their future where Web 2.0 and other collaboration tools become a critical part of performing the business of government. And the next big thing? We’re on it.

  • green computing, cloud computing_
  • Creating a sound infrastructure is more than adding or replacing hardware. And it’s more than laying down hundreds of thousands of miles of broadband cable. That’s only the beginning. When energy is fast becoming the greatest cost in the federal government’s technology budget, it’s clear that finding a better, more sustainable way to support technology is a priority. From cloud computing to green computing, Aquilent is leading the way in identifying and developing next-generation facilities, technologies, and applications that will modernize our infrastructure.

  • improved competition_
  • “Foster a business and regulatory landscape in which entrepreneurs and small businesses can thrive…”
    —from President Obama’s Technology Strategy

With the development of acquisition and finance systems for multiple agencies—like the Navy, the Army, the Department of Labor, and the Department of Veterans Affairs—we make it easier for small businesses and entrepreneurs to compete against much bigger contractors for the work of the federal government. By leveling the playing field, we’ve helped create a far more competitive business environment for those seeking to provide innovative solutions and services to government agencies. More competition—for the private sector or the federal government—leads to more innovative, efficient, and cost-effective solutions.

  • improving health care through technology_
  • “[We will] lower health care costs by investing in electronic information technology systems.”
    —from President Obama’s Technology Strategy

Modernizing health care records and the way they are utilized is an area where the federal government and Aquilent have been leading the way. With more and more of our health records going online, Aquilent continues to answer the question of how will we access that information, and put it to good use.

With successful patient portals already in place at the Department of Veterans Affairs and at the Air Force, Aquilent has made managing the health care of constituents more efficient, more cost effective, and more user friendly. Physicians can access reliable, up-to-date patient histories. Patients can easily move from one health care facility to another without hassle. Patients can order prescriptions and schedule appointments online. Patients can access their records, manage their therapeutic course, and update their patient history, all through a web browser.
