The "Exceptional Achievement Goddard Honor Award" awarded to Funds Control Project Team
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LAUREL, MD, March 22, 2006– The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Goddard Space Flight Center recently honored the Funds Control Project with the Exceptional Achievement Honor Award, their highest award for team-based achievement. The team, consisting of members of Goddard Civil Servants, Aquilent, and other contractors was recognized for implementing a web-based system to improve the management of funding received by the Center for science projects, avoiding the funding management problems resulting in previous years from the inadequate level of funds control in the Agency system. This award recognizes individuals and teams who have made exceptional contribution to the performance of the Center’s mission that aid the Center’s scientific, technical, and institutional capabilities and enhances mission performance.
The Funds Control Project Team was formed in January 2005 to develop a Center-specific solution that provides the ability to manage funding at the lowest level of the budget structure, resolving a gap in the implementation of the Agency Core Financial system (SAP). This initiative came about when the Center Director became aware of the severity of the problem and the inability of scientists and project managers to effectively manage their projects.
The web-based system developed by the Project Team provides functionality to resolve issues impacting projects at Goddard by preventing overspending through greater visibility of the status of funding; reduces the financial reporting effort through a cohesive, integrated, web-based solution; and improves timeliness of problem identification and information availability. More than 1,700 people have been identified by the GSFC Directorates as needing to be users of the Funds Control system. More than 1,300 users have been trained to date on the first Phase roll-out of the system. The significant issues being experienced by the Center's resource and technical communities relating to the high level of funds control in SAP are being resolved through the use of this system.
The Project Team received the award with the following citation:
In recognition of your dedication to the Funds Control Project, exemplary skills, customer focused attitude, and willingness to serve in whatever capacity is needed to make the project a success.
Aquilent’s President and CEO David Fout stated, “Aquilent and Goddard have a long history of successfully delivering innovative IT solutions together. We congratulate the team on receiving this award and I’m proud that Aquilent could be part of it.”
Aquilent employees worked on the Project Team as a System Architect, software developers, the Business Analysis / Testing Team, and developing and delivering training.
