Aquilent Designs "Excellent" Blog for GSA's Office of Citizen Services and Communications  / 5.14.08

GSA's Gov Gab Blog Receives 9 out of 10 Rating from Blogged.com

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LAUREL, MD, May 14, 2008 –-GSA’s blog Gov Gab, which was designed by Aquilent, Inc.,  was recently reviewed by the editors of Blogged.com and received a 9 out of 10 excellent rating. This rating was based on the blog’s frequency of updates, relevance of content, site design, and writing style. Gov Gab is the second-best U.S. Government blog according to Blogged.com and is ranked ahead of other media-related blogs such as MSNBC’s Hardball, Defense Tech, and GovExec.com.

With the growing use of blogging as a method of communications, government agencies increasingly see blogging as an effective and tech savvy channel to reach the public, put a human face on government and open a two-way conversation between the public and the government.

In September 2007, the General Services Administration (GSA) launched Gov Gab, which was created by a team of technical staff and content managers from the Office of Citizen Services at GSA and Aquilent’s web development staff.

Aquilent created the Gov Gab blog design and customized templates to complement the established look and feel of the USA.gov web site, the U.S. government’s official web portal. Previously, GSA had enlisted Aquilent to refresh the design and improve the user experience for USA.gov and GobiernoUSA.gov.  Aquilent also helped launch the original FirstGov.gov. USA.gov and GobiernoUSA.gov make finding government information and services easy.

“This is an important recognition for the Office of Citizen Services and Communications team at GSA as it continues to be at the forefront of using emerging technologies to enhance citizen service, making government information more accessible to all citizens,” said David Fout, President and CEO of Aquilent, Inc.

Gov Gab has five content managers who write posts related to government information every day, each drawing on his or her professional experience as a government information expert to help spotlight U.S. Government information and services of greatest use in Americans’ daily lives.

Apache Roller was chosen as the software for the blog based on GSA's Oracle enterprise database environment and its ability to meet the technical, accessibility, and functional specifications the blog required.
