Aquilent Named 2008 Government Contracting Firm of the Year by the Tech Council of Maryland
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LAUREL, MD, May 16, 2008 –- Aquilent has been awarded the Government Contracting Firm of the Year Award by the Tech Council of Maryland (TCM) at its 20th Annual Tech Awards ceremony. Aquilent was one of five finalists for this category. For 20 years, TCM has recognized the outstanding achievements of the IT and biotechnology communities in the state of Maryland. The award ceremony was held on May 15th at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center in Bethesda, MD and was attended by Governor Martin O’Malley, Comptroller Peter Franchot, and other state legislators.
The Government Contracting Firm of the Year Award recognizes the company that has proven its ability to provide excellent service to the government as either a prime or subcontractor. Aquilent was selected as the winner based on its ability to achieve measurable success as evidenced by growth in revenue and profitability either through organic growth or acquisition; develop critical expertise in its service to the government; demonstrate ability to plan a clear growth strategy and execute on it; improve the level of service or cut costs of either the government or a prime contractor; and demonstrate success in partnering with other contracting firms in the region.
Aquilent specializes in solutions and services for enterprise web applications, acquisition and finance solutions, and enterprise content management. It is the creator of the Navy SeaPort, one of the first successful e-business portals in the Federal sector, and the architect of groundbreaking portals such as the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)’s MyHealtheVet portal, General Services Administration’s USA.gov (formerly known as FirstGov.gov), US Postal Service’s USPS.com, the National Institutes of Health (NIH)’s ClinicalTrials.gov, and the NOAA Fisheries’ innovative permit issuance system, PermitShop. Aquilent has a tradition of satisfied customers and long-term service relationships and innovation for the U.S. Government.
Aquilent is an industry-leading systems integrator for the Federal government and employs information technology professionals who are viewed as subject matter experts in their fields. Aquilent has hosted or sponsored workshops during 2007 and has had employees speak at industry conferences, thereby solidifying Aquilent’s commitment to the sharing of best practices and innovations with our clients.
Aquilent firmly believes in the importance of having a clear vision of where it wants to go and a systematic plan with specific goals and built-in accountability. In addition, Aquilent strives to be diligent and effective in communicating that vision to every member of the organization, what role they play, and what effect their contribution has in the master plan. To this end, Aquilent enhanced its internal organizational structure to better meet its clients’ service delivery needs, and enhanced its strategy to be more account-focused. As a result, Aquilent is anticipating unprecedented growth for 2008, with the vast majority of that growth driven through the backlog developed in 2007.
In addition to providing exemplary services and solutions to the Federal government, Aquilent also ensures that its employees are well taken care of and gives back to the local community. Aquilent employees enjoy excellent benefits packages and on-site amenities that boost morale and keep our retention rate high. Throughout 2007, Aquilent held food and school supply drives, instituted a new Charity Matching Program to encourage employees to give monetary donations to their favorite charities, and donated a vast array of electronics to the Washington VA Medical Center to aid the rehabilitation of wounded war heroes.
“This is a great recognition, not only for Aquilent, but also for our employees and federal clients who have given us the opportunity to be viewed as a leader among government contracting firms. It is a testament to the exemplary service and solutions that we provide to the government,” said David Fout, President and CEO of Aquilent, Inc.
This year, TCM received more nominations than any previous year and 47 percent more nomination applications this year than last year, making Aquilent’s status as a winner that much more significant.
